The Shade Post and Rubem Robierb Unveil Metamorph-Us Bringing Life to the Corner of 1st Avenue and 1st Street In Downtown Fort Lauderdale
The Shade Post and internationally renowned artist, Rubem Robierb, proudly present Metamorph-Us, an expansive work of public art that graces the walls of the newest avant-garde business in Fort Lauderdale. The location for the Shade Post at 1st Street and 1st Avenue in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, was chosen specifically by the creator, Kayce Armstrong for it’s potential to impact the neighborhood, at a time that she describes as “ripe for transformation.”
Through the Façade Program from the City of Fort Lauderdale, Robierb was commissioned to paint his butterflies spanning the Shade Post’s exterior walls. As the iconic symbol for transformation, the project was aptly named “Metamorph-Us,” as the creators hope that this will create momentum to continue the transformation of the Brickell/First Avenue and First Street area and become an important arts and cultural addition to the downtown transit area.
On his inspiration for the project, Robierb “has chosen to combine two strong, but opposite images as elements reflecting the feminine and masculine aspects of our psyche, immediately creating a dramatic metaphor for the swift transformations occurring in our world.”
Armstrong goes on to explain, “The Shade Post relocation to downtown Fort Lauderdale has given us such a unique opportunity to make a difference. Over the years, it has always been my dream to acquire a space big enough to encompass the umbra of the Art of Shade. Everything we do here at the Shade Post is focused around creation. Although the area presented us with many challenges, we believed with the right team and motivation we could make an impact. Fort Lauderdale has welcomed us with open arms, and the Metamorphosis of the Brickell/First Avenue and First Street area has begun.”
The Murals will be unveiled during the Grand Opening of Shade Post on Saturday, March 21st at 7pm; a Ribbon Cutting will take place at 7:30pm. Shade Post is located at 12 NW 1st Street Fort Lauderdale, FL and serves as a proactive destination, where fashion, art and music can thrive.
